Where did Carl Cozier Elementary School get its name?

Dr. Cozier was a practitioner of veterinary medicine in Bellingham and Whatcom County for over 50 years. A native of the northwest born in 1874, he attended Washington State College and later graduated from the Chicago Veterinary College. In 1905, he established his practice in Bellingham and pursued a widely respected career in veterinary medicine.

One of his greatest achievements, among many, was serving for 21 years on the Bellingham School Board beginning in 1928. For most of those years, Dr. Cozier also chaired the Board and helped guide the district in striving for educational excellence.

It was because of his dedication and commitment to this excellence in education that our school was named in his honor. Dr. Cozier passed away at the age of 81, just two years after the school bearing his name opened its doors to new generations of learners.

His legacy of excellence is ours to share with each and every student...
